Penticton FireSmart Team to host “Wildfire Preparedness” interview series

News Release

To align with this year’s Wildfire Community Preparedness Day (May 7), the Penticton FireSmart Team is hosting an interview series with varying panels of experts who can discuss response to wildfires, prevention and mitigation, cultural burning and prescribed fires, and emergency preparedness.

“The City of Penticton is located in a wildfire-prone environment and the wildfires of the past few years have shown the potential for wildfire to impact homes and livelihoods,” said FireSmart Coordinator, Miyoko McKeown.

Each presentation will start with a twenty-minute discussion led and moderated by Brittany Seibert, the City of Penticton’s Emergency Program Coordinator. After this discussion, questions from those in attendance will lead the conversation.

“This interview series is an opportunity for the community to better educate themselves on wildfires so we can be prepared for what may come this and future summer seasons,” stated Penticton Mayor, John Vassilaki.

The presentation will take place every Friday in May at 10:30 a.m. at City Hall in Council Chambers, along with an option to attend virtually. Those who are interested in attending can get their FREE tickets for by visiting https://firesmartpenticton.eventbrite.ca, or by contacting the Penticton FireSmart Team at FireSmart@penticton.ca.
