Residents invited to review Draft Urban Deer Management Strategy and participate in fall deer count

Service Announcement

The City of Penticton is inviting residents to review the Draft Urban Deer Management Strategy and share feedback from Oct. 21 to Nov. 18, 2026.

Developed with input from the Urban Deer Management Advisory Committee, the draft strategy provides a framework for managing urban deer in Penticton. It focuses on public education, data collection, ongoing monitoring and clear communication with residents, while balancing public safety, environmental health and community values.

The strategy also highlights the need for more local data to better understand Penticton's urban deer population and support future decisions. To help gather this information, the City is seeking volunteers for a fall urban deer count.

The count is expected to take place over one morning in mid-November. Volunteers will attend a virtual orientation meeting in advance and work in pairs to observe and count deer in assigned areas of the city.

How to get involved:

•    Residents can review the draft strategy and provide comments directly onto the document at www.shapeyourcitypenticton.ca.
•    The public review period will close on Nov. 18, 2026.
•    To volunteer to participate in the fall urban deer count, email urbandeer@penticton.ca. Additional information about the count, including the date, orientation session and volunteer roles, will be provided by email.

Feedback received during the engagement period will help inform a final strategy that will be presented to Council for consideration.
