The City of Penticton is encouraging all residents to sign up for its new emergency notification system, Voyent Alert!
The city can use this notification system to send registered users real-time notifications and updates through the Voyent Alert! app, email, text message or a phone call. The system is free to use and will ensure registered community members are informed during emergency events such as wildfires, floods, and other urgent situations.
“The safety of our community is of the utmost importance,” says Mayor Julius Bloomfield. “By implementing this new tool, we will ensure that residents and visitors can receive critical information quickly and reliably when it matters most.”
Voyent Alert! is already being used in surrounding areas and is easily accessible from personal devices. This service replaces the City’s former emergency text alert service by providing more accurate location-based updates and a more user-friendly experience. If you have signed up for the city’s text alert service in the past, you will need to subscribe to Voyent Alert! as this service will be discontinued.
By using Voyent Alert!, notifications can now be tailored to specific locations that matter to residents, such as their home, workplace or a family members address. The City will only use this service for emergency and critical incident notifications.
“This is a crucial communication tool that will support our efforts to keep the community connected and informed during emergencies,” says Amanda Newell, Emergency Program Manager. “Being able to deliver location-specific information directly to our residents and visitors strengthens our emergency response and helps everyone make informed decisions for their safety.”
Signing up for Voyent Alert! is quick and easy. Residents – or anyone who visits Penticton and would like to subscribe – can register online or download the app and choose how they want to receive notifications in the event of an emergency.
Those looking for more information about the system or for help signing up are invited to attend the Council Open House (May 6) from 4-7 p.m. at the Penticton Trade and Convention Centre.
