City Council will hear a request at their upcoming meeting to make a small addition to the LocoLanding Adventure Golf lease area in Riverside Park. With the City’s current plans to demolish the public washrooms adjacent to the outdoor adventure park, LocoLanding has instead asked to have the washroom facility and lands (0.1 acres) incorporated into their existing lease (1.73 acres) with the City.
“The City has installed new public washrooms in the area and has plans to demolish the original ones. Through this proposal, LocoLanding is asking to include these washrooms in their fenced area for use of their customers,” said Anthony Haddad, the City’s General Manager of Community Services. “In exchange for the addition to their lease, LocoLanding would takeover maintenance, repairs and future demolition costs for the washroom building.”
The cost to demolish these washrooms is approximately $15,000 - $20,000. Should Council choose not to amend the lease, the City would be responsible for these costs and the work would be undertaken in the early part of 2023.
As the lease addition is considered a disposition of City lands, the change is subject to Section 26 of the Community Charter. If approved, the City would be required to publish notice of the proposed disposition before executing the agreement. Notifications would include a description of the land or improvements, the nature and term of the distribution, and the consideration to be received by the municipality for the disposition. Given the minor nature of the addition to the existing lease area, which was approved through the 1996 referendum, the proposed change would not require public assent.
