Update on City snow removal: Great progress overnight

Service Announcement

With relatively no new snow last night, crews were able to make some great progress. All streets in the City have had at least an initial pass with our equipment. The City has put together this update to inform citizens on what you can expect for snow clearing today and how you can help.

What is happening today:

  • Crews will continue to move the snow back and widen streets throughout the city.
  • More focus will be on areas requiring hand shovelling such as transit stops.
  • Efforts to clear catch basins are also ongoing. City will monitor streets for flooding as temperatures rise.
  • Urgent snow clearing needs are expected to be wrapped up by end of day and operations will return to normal.

What you can do:

  • If your street hasn’t received an initial pass, let us know by contacting 250-490-2500 or submit the online service form on the City’s website.
  • A reminder that when clearing your sidewalks, include the letdown on corners to allow access for pedestrians, wheelchairs and motorized scooters.
  • Please also contact us if you see streets are flooding. Your assistance in clearing catch basins on your street is appreciated.
  • Remember that if your garbage collection is affected by the snow, you can place an extra bag alongside your cart on your next collection day.
  • Take a picture of a snow angel and share it on the City’s Facebook page. Your angel will be entered in a draw for a $100 gift card in appreciation for their efforts.

Thank you for your patience and assistance during this snow event. More information about the City’s snow clearing policy and answers to frequently asked questions can be found on the website at www.penticton.ca/snow.
