Resources for Renter Rights and Evictions

• If You're Having Issues with Your Landlord

  Apply for dispute resolution through the Provincial Residential Tenancy Branch.

  Dispute resolution is similar to court, but different in some important ways. Typically, most hearings are held over the phone and without the presence of a lawyer. An arbitrator will consider the evidence, apply the law and make a decision. After the hearing, both the tenant and landlord must follow the arbitrator’s orders.

  The standard application fee for dispute resolution is $100. Low-income tenants may not have to pay the fee at all.

If You are in Search of Affordable Housing

• Supportive Housing

  To apply for supportive housing, you must submit an application to the Supportive Housing Registration Service.

  You only need to apply once.

  1. Get the Supportive Housing Registration Service Application form
  2. Complete the application form. Instructions are on the form
  3. Submit your completed application:

  • In person: Bring your application to a BC Housing office
  • By mail: The Supportive Housing Registry, BC Housing, 101-4555 Kingsway, Burnaby, B.C., V5H 4V8
  • By fax: 604-439-4729 (only fax pages 2, 3 and 4)
• Vulnerability Assessment Tool (VAT)

  The VAT tool is used for determining eligibility and allocating services and housing for adults experiencing homelessness. To receive a VAT assessment, contact Bylaw services: 250-490-2440
   

• Supportive Housing Development: The Rise – OneSky Community Resources

  The Rise has 56 affordable rental homes (studios to three-bedroom apartments) suitable for families and individuals.

  The Backstreet Apartments have 40 affordable rental units, including three accessible units.

• Homeless Outreach and Homelessness Prevention Program – South Okanagan Similkameen Brain Injury Society (SOSBIS)

  At the beginning of each week, SOSBIS creates a list of current available housing in the South Okanagan area. These lists are available for pick up on Mondays.

  The SOSBIS office offers help for any individual searching for housing on Wednesdays from 1:00pm to 3:00pm: #2-996 Main Street, Penticton BC, V2A 5E4
