EcDev Specialist departs for Fiji

News Release

The City of Penticton’s Economic Development Specialist, Andrew Kemp, is wishing Penticton farewell to follow his wife to Suva Fiji following her acceptance of an ‘opportunity of a life time’ role.

Mr. Kemp joined the City in June 2019 and led a number of key economic development initiatives during his year of service, including recent work supporting recovery efforts from COVID-19.

“Andrew was a great addition to our team and was quick to integrate himself into our organization and community,” said Penticton’s Director of Development Services, Blake Laven.  “We wish Andrew and his wife great success as they take up their new life in Fiji”.

Following Mr. Kemp’s departure, the City will re-imagine how best to deliver Economic Development Services to the community during the current circumstances and will therefore not immediately replace this position.

“With the disruptive and unpredictable presence of COVID-19 continuing to evolve and change, long-range functions like Economic Development are difficult to administer,” said Blake.  “In the meantime we will continue to implement relevant portions of the City’s 2018-2022 Economic Development Strategic Plan using existing Development Services staff and select consultancies, combined with continued guidance from the Economic Prosperity and Development Services Advisory Committee.”
