Holiday Garbage and Recycling Collection

News Release

Recycling will be picked up for three consecutive weeks starting the week of December 14, as the City of Penticton is offering an additional week of recycling collection over the holiday season.  There is often extra recycling during the holidays, and only materials placed within your City-issued recycle cart will be collected.

This year, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day fall on a Friday. If your garbage collection day is Friday, then your pickup will occur on the following Saturday. Collection on Friday, December 25 will instead occur on Saturday, December 26. Collection on Friday, January 1 will instead occur on Saturday, January 2.

“There is often extra recycling over the holiday season, and we want to keep collection convenient for residents by offering an additional week of recycle pickup” said Community Sustainability Coordinator, David Kassian. “Please make sure all recycling is placed loosely into your City-issued recycle cart and placed out by 7:00am on collection day.”

If you have extra garbage or recycling that will not fit in the designated cart, you can purchase tag-a-bag stickers from City Hall, City Yards, or the Recreation Centre. Placing one tag-a-bag sticker on one extra bag of material will ensure that it is collected.

When placing your recycling out for collection, remember to clean and rinse all containers. Products such as toys, electronics, Christmas lights, ribbons, bows, and foil wrap are not accepted in the curbside recycle program.
