There are reports of an aggressive deer around the Atkinson St. and Okanagan Ave. area. Please be cautious when walking in that area, keep dogs on a leash and do not approach the deer.
This is a timely reminder that female deer (does) will be more assertive for the next two months as fawning takes place.
Keep pets away and give does and fawns a wide berth. Female deer can be very protective of their young and have been known to attack both pets and people.
Also, does will hide their fawns in order to feed and rehydrate, so it is important not to approach what appears to be an abandoned fawn.
If you are concerned that a fawn has been truly abandoned, and looks unwell, contact the Conservation Officer Service at 1-877-952-7277.
Do not approach the fawn(s) or try to interfere. It is illegal to capture wildlife without a permit and you may potentially cause more harm by trying to intervene.
