I Love It Here Pen Hi Kids

What do Penticton teens love most about Penticton?

Tag(s): Living Here, Love Local

Two lakes. Sunny beaches. Amazing views. A supportive community. Friends and family. Summer.

As part of the City's I Love It Here campaign, leadership students from Penticton Secondary were invited to complete the sentence, "I love it here because..." on heart-shaped stickers. Their handwritten responses offer a snapshot of what they love best about life in Penticton.

It's all about the lakes

If there was one clear theme, it was Penticton's lakes.

Students repeatedly mentioned Okanagan Lake, Skaha Lake and the unique experience of living between two lakes. Others talked about swimming, spending time on the water or enjoying the views.

Beach days and summer vibes

Closely tied to the love of the lakes was a love of the beaches. Many students highlighted spending time at the beach, swimming in the summer and enjoying everything that comes with Penticton's warm-weather lifestyle.

A community that feels like home

While the lakes and beaches were popular answers, the strongest messages were often about people. Students described Penticton as a welcoming, supportive and close-knit community. They spoke about kindness, helping one another and the feeling that everyone has a role to play.

Friends, family and belonging

Many students also wrote about the people closest to them. Responses mentioned friends, family and the comfort of being surrounded by familiar faces. Others appreciated living close to the people they care about and having opportunities to spend time together.

Surrounded by natural beauty

Penticton's scenery earned plenty of praise as well. Students highlighted the mountains, landscapes, nature and stunning views that surround the city. Easy access to outdoor recreation and natural spaces was another top theme.

The little things that make a big difference

Students also celebrated the everyday things that make life in Penticton enjoyable: the sunny weather, being able to walk to places, getting across town in minutes and having plenty to do throughout the year.

The lakes and beaches may top the list, but they're only part of the story. Equally important are the friendships, sense of belonging, natural beauty and strong community connections that make Penticton feel like home.
