🌟 Penticton Council Highlights – Jan 20, 2026
Here’s a quick recap of last week’s meeting:
Council proclaimed January as Alzheimer’s Awareness Month, and Community Radio Week (Feb 1–7), recognizing Peach City Community Radio volunteers.
🏛️ Key decisions included:
• A task force to review 2027 Council remuneration
• Approval of a 2‑year e‑scooter/e‑bike pilot launching April 1
• Extended night transit hours to support late‑night workers
• Continued operations of the temporary Dawson Ave emergency shelter, while staff work on longer-term housing solutions. A temporary use permit will return for council consideration at an upcoming meeting.
Council advanced BC Builds workforce housing at 995 Eckhardt Ave W.
Adopted the Development Cost Charge Amendment Bylaw.
A motion advocating for a detox and recovery centre was postponed for more information and will return at a later date.

Here's a highlight of what happened at the last Council meeting on July 15⬇
✔ Received updated on the Civic Places and Spaces Project and directed staff to continue exploring commercial lease options for civic purposes in the downtown area.
✔ Directed staff to hold an info session about a proposed infrastructure levy in advance of the September 16 Council Meeting.
✔ Directed staff to report back with Terms of Reference and funding plans for an Urban Deer Advisory Committee.
✔ Approved a Development Variance Permit and Development Permit for 172 Green Avenue West.
