McLaren Arena
McLaren Arena, at 1350 King Street, is your go-to location for public skating, sports games and other ice activities. The arena is now open for seasonal public skating. The arena also hosts dry floor activities in the spring, home to the Glengarry Skating Club, Penticton Minor Hockey Association and Penticton Minor Lacrosse Association.

Shinny
This informal version of hockey emphasizes fun and community. Perfect for players of all skill levels, shinny offers a relaxed, non-competitive environment where no score is kept, and the focus is purely on enjoyment.
Full hockey gear, including a CSA-approved helmet, is required. Participants under 18 years must have a cage on their helmet and neck guards. All children must have an adult guardian participating on the ice or in the facility to assist if needed. Space is limited to 24 participants and 2 goalies. Preregister online, by phone, or in person.

7-12 yearsFor your child interested in participating in a fun and non-competitive game of shinny. This drop-in game is non-contract, and all abilities are welcome. Full hockey gear, including a CSA-approved helmet, is required. Participants under 18yrs must also have a cage on their helmet. If a child does not have a registered guardian actively participating on the ice, one must be available in the facility to assist staff if required. Adult guardians are welcome, however, adult spots are limited to 6.

Skating
- Always skate in the designated direction
- Forward skate only
- Do not carry infants or small children on the ice
- Refrain from horseplay, tag, and/or excessive speed
- Keep strollers in designated beginner areas
- No food or drink is allowed on the ice
- No shoes allowed on the ice
- No headphones or cell phones on the ice
- We strongly recommend wearing CSA-approved hockey helmets
Hockey
- A waiver must be signed before entering the programs

McLaren Arena is available for private rentals! You’ll find spectator seating for 250, four change rooms, a referee room and a meeting room on-site. The rink is 180' x 80' and includes access to a score clock, goal nets and skate aids.
- Private rentals are available on a first-come, first-served basis, subject to availability.
- A minimum of one hour must be booked, additional time can be added in 15-minute increments. The fees are applied according to rental duration and are prorated.
- Rental skates are not available during private ice rentals.
- Birthday parties are welcome during public skating times. For more information, please see Birthday Parties below.
- Insurance listing the City of Penticton as an additional insured for a minimum of $3,000,000 is required for all rentals. For more information, please see Liability Insurance listed below.
- The City does not hold or reserve times, payment is due at the time of booking.
- Rentals are confirmed once the City has received a signed contract, insurance and payment.

Insurance is required when renting any City venue, including McLaren Arena ice and the meeting room.
- The City of Penticton must be named as an “Additional Insured” on any General Liability policy.
- The policy shall contain a clause providing that the insurer will give the City thirty (30) days prior written notice in the event of cancellation or material change.
- The organizer or host shall provide the City with evidence of such insurance coverage in the form of an executed copy of a Certificate of Insurance to the City ten (10) days prior to the granting of a License to Use contract.

McLaren Arena birthday parties between July 2-October 6, 2025, must be booked as a private ice rental, and rental skates are unavailable. Please see the rates and insurance requirements above in "Private Rentals".

Need Rental Skates?
- Rental skates are available only during the City's public skating programs. Your party can join our public skating programs.
- Regular admission rates and rental skate fees apply.
Meeting Room Rental
- Many party planners opt to rent our meeting room alongside skating activities. It provides a cozy space for snacks, cake, storing presents and taking a break.
- If you require set-up and clean-up time, consider booking the room for 30 minutes before and after your event.
- Tables and chairs are available by request. Most parties request two tables and 15 chairs.
- The maximum capacity in the room is 30 people, this number reduces if there are tables and chairs.
- Note: the meeting room rental fee is not included and is separate from admission and skate rental fees.

Outdoor Rink
The outdoor ice rink is located at 107 Martin Street (Gyro Park), a year-round amenity where residents can roll, play or ice skate for free in the heart of the city. Please note there are no skate rentals available at this rink (BYO skates and helmets).

The ice rink is now open for the season, weather dependent. Please note that maintenance crews may need to work on the ice during opening hours, as time permits, based on other priorities throughout the community facilities. Also, City staff cannot be on-site clearing the ice and maintaining it to pristine conditions at all times. Please skate to the conditions and enjoy this free facility.
Hours of operation: 9am to 9pm daily
Family skating: odd numbered days (absolutely NO hockey allowed)
Shinny hockey: even numbered days
Important
- No ice skate rentals are available at the outdoor rink. BYO skates.
- No shoes allowed on the ice.
- Helmets and safety equipment recommended.
- Be considerate and watch out for others.
- Infants and children should not be carried.
- No smoking or alcohol.
- The rink is not supervised. Rink is monitored by video surveillance. Rules will be enforced by City staff.
- Weather and ice conditions vary. Inspect the ice before use. Do not use if unsafe and report any issues.
