Penticton marks 10th annual GoByBike Week

News Release

This week Penticton residents are encouraged to join cyclists from across the province in marking GoByBike week, an annual BC event that inspires people and their communities to use bicycles for everyday transportation.  To mark the 2020 event locally, the Penticton and Area Cycling Association is hosting several events.  For details visit – www.gobybikebc.ca/Penticton

“Cycling is a popular solution when looking for easy and affordable transportation alternatives to the car,” said Penticton Mayor, John Vassilaki. “Take up the challenge and get around by bike during our great fall weather!”

Coinciding with this year’s GoByBike week, the City of Penticton is concurrently gathering feedback on a proposed preferred route for a bike lane travelling from Skaha Lake to Okanagan Lake.  The City is particularly interested in hearing from residents and businesses who live along the route with the goal of better understanding any impacts that would influence the location or design.

The proposed preferred route includes four sections of roadway, specifically portions of South Main Street, Atkinson Street, Fairview Road and Martin Street.  For more information on this project, please visit the City’s community engagement website, www.shapeyourcitypenticton.ca.

“If you’ve been putting off providing feedback, or you’re someone who’s just learning about this project now, we encourage you to get involved in the process while the window for engagement remains open and staff are actively gathering information,” said the City’s Engagement Strategist, JoAnne Kleb.

Feedback on the proposed preferred route is being collected now through to mid October.
