Penticton Museum to re-open, August 18

News Release

The Penticton Museum & Archives is pleased to announce a limited re-opening of the museum to commence on Tuesday, August 18th. The museum will be open to the public Tuesday through Saturday from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The archives will remain closed but will re-open in the near future. While open, the museum will adhere to all COVID-19 protocols governing public spaces.

The Penticton Museum was fortunate to be able to negotiate an extension on their current exhibit, Play Hard, Fight Hard: Sport and the Canadian Military. Originally scheduled to close in mid-July, the exhibit will be on display at the Penticton Museum until mid-fall.  Play Hard, Fight Hard: Sport and the Canadian Military features a variety of different sports from the 1880s to the present, represented through art, artifacts and photos. The exhibit is designed to explore how sports are used to reinforce militarily useful concepts such as teamwork, leadership, fitness, and tactical planning. The exhibit also demonstrates how many athletes naturally gravitated towards the military, and how military training allowed many to have a successful athletic career after their service.

The Penticton Museum strives to deliver professional and innovative exhibits, programs, archival services, and resources in order to coordinate heritage programming, both at the museum and within the City's environs, with the goal of ensuring cultural and natural heritage management is a vital component in the development of Penticton's physical identity and community character.
