Public reminded to stay away from Green Avenue site as State of Local Emergency remains in place

News Release

The City of Penticton is advising residents to continue staying away from the Green Avenue fire site to ensure safety and allow emergency crews to conduct their work.

A State of Local Emergency declared in response to the structure fire at 435 Green Avenue remains in effect and will continue over the weekend until the site is deemed safe.

The City, along with Emergency Support Services (ESS), has met with evacuees and continues to provide support to those impacted. ESS remains activated to assist displaced residents.

“Our top priority is maintaining public safety in and around the site, supported by on-site security and our emergency response teams,” said Emergency Operations Centre Director Anthony Haddad. “At the same time, we remain focused on supporting evacuees, with Emergency Support Services continuing to assist residents during this displacement.”

Emergency crews will remain active on-site addressing fire-related hazards. The area will continue to be monitored by first responders over the weekend, with security personnel in place.

Residents are asked to avoid the area and follow all directions from traffic control personnel. For information about BC Transit detours, visit bctransit.com
