Residents will see some relief on the roads starting early next week, with many of the major construction projects winding down for the season and road closures tapering off. The City is providing an update on remaining activities for the following capital projects and what to expect in the new year.
Haven Hill Road / Uplands / Redlands
Be aware that Haven Hill Road will be fully closed on Thursday, Friday and Saturday this week to complete the final stage of paving work. Watch for detours during this time directing traffic to Vancouver Avenue. After this time, work will be completed and drivers can expect a smoother drive through this section.
This project involved water and sanitary sewer utility upgrades, service connection replacements, asphalt replacement, curb and gutter repairs and fire hydrant installations throughout the Uplands and Redlands neighbourhoods.
Point Intersection group of projects
The new roundabout at South Main Street and Pineview Road will open to the public on a daily basis as of Thursday morning (Nov. 16). However, intermittent closures may be required as crews conduct final touchups throughout the area.
Be aware that Galt Avenue will remain closed for the time being, as well as South Main north of Secrest Avenue, as crews continue work while the mild weather continues.
The Point Intersection involves multiple projects throughout the southeast region of Penticton, which are being conducted in stages. The work wrapping up and/or completed this year includes the sidewalk construction and traffic calming work along Greenwood Drive and Dartmouth Drive, infrastructure upgrades along South Main and Pineview Road, installing a new roundabout, electrical upgrades, and the paving of Warren Avenue.
Work will resume in 2024 to install a signalized traffic light at Skaha Lake Road and Galt Avenue. Other work involved in this projects includes closing Kinney Avenue to vehicle traffic and installing the Kinney to Galt section of the Lake to Lake Bike Route.
Penticton Creek project
The northbound lane of Government Street will be detoured on Thursday while crews pave the pathway next to Penticton Creek. Crews are also working outside of the creek to complete landscaping and enhance the pedestrian walkways.
This two-year project is part of the City’s ongoing efforts to naturalize and restore the creek to its natural habitat, mitigating future flood risk.
