Next steps will soon be underway in the City of Penticton’s push to reduce the threat of wildfire in Esplanade Park with fire prevention treatment.
The work will be carried out in two phases.
Phase one, starting Tuesday April 14, will take place around the tennis courts and involves piling debris, chipping and some removal. At this time, debris will not be burned.
Phase two, starting this fall, involves work similar to that undertaken in phase one, but will focus on the remaining area of the park. The burning of debris will occur during phase two.
Esplanade Park will remain permanently closed until further notice.
“The City thanks the public for its patience while this important wildfire mitigation project is carried out,” said Deputy Fire Chief, Chris Forster.
