Feedback sought on future development at 770 Argyle St.

News Release

The City has received an application to construct a multifamily development at 770 Argyle Street. The proposal consists of five, 3-storey duplexes, totaling 10 dwelling units. This proposal requires an amendment to the City’s Official Community Plan to change the future land use designation on the property from ‘Detached Residential’ to ‘Ground Oriented Residential’. Before the application is presented to City Council, the City would like to gather feedback from residents about changing the ‘future land use’ of this property.

“This development proposal is a good example of how larger urban city lots can support increased density and help address the need for housing,” said Audrey Tanguay, Planning Manager with the City of Penticton. “We are looking forward to understanding the community’s thoughts about the vision for this property.”

Interested citizens are invited to learn more about what is being considered and share their feedback at shapeyourcitypenticton.ca before May 15, 2022. Paper copies of the information and the form are also available at the Shape Your City kiosk at the Penticton Public Library. The feedback received will be shared with Council, the community, as well as the applicant. Letters have been mailed to neighbouring homes and businesses. The following open house and information sessions are planned for citizens who would like learn more or ask questions.

  • Drop by an Open House at the Penticton Public Library (785 Main St.) on Saturday, April 23, from 10am – 12pm.
  • Attend an Online Information Session on Thursday, May 5, from 7pm – 8:30pm, online (Zoom). Sign up to receive the link.

The purpose of this public engagement period is to gather community feedback on the proposed development and present the engagement findings to Council, along with the development application package. The community will have a further opportunity to provide input as part of the statutory public hearing for the OCP amendment and rezoning application, after Council has given first consideration to the development. This will fulfill the legislative requirements for engagement for both the OCP amendment and the rezoning application.
