Peach Classic Penticton Triathlon returns this Sunday, July 17, with hundreds of athletes and supporters expected to gather along Lakeshore Drive for the 7 a.m. swim event, followed by biking and running along city roads and the Kettle Valley Railway (KVR) Trail toward Naramata. Residents should anticipate temporary road closures, expect delays and use caution when travelling through the area.
Road closures
Lakeshore Drive will be closed in sections starting at 4:30 a.m. to 12:10 p.m. between Riverside Drive and Front Street. Access to Lakeside Resort and Pier Water Sports is available from Main Street.
Motorists should also watch for traffic control personnel and cyclists along the bike course during the morning hours, including Vancouver Hill, Lower Bench, Upper Bench and Naramata Roads. Use extreme caution and be prepared to share the road with runners and cyclists.
All road closure information is posted on the City’s website at penticton.ca/road-closures.
How to get involved
Supporters can cheer on the athletes from Lakeshore Drive starting at 7 a.m. when they enter the water at Rotary Park Beach to swim, followed by the biking and running near Okanagan Lake and toward Naramata. The full schedule can be found on the event website at peachclassic.ca.
The event is looking for volunteers, with no experience necessary. If interested, please email volunteer@peachclassic.org.
Other upcoming endurance events
Two other upcoming events include Ultraman Canada (July 22-24) and Ultra 520K Canada (July 30-Aug. 1). While there are no road closures planned for either of these events, watch for athletes on the roads throughout Penticton and the surrounding areas on those dates. The full schedules are posted on their websites.
