Workshop for those looking at Council run

News Release

If you’re thinking of making a run for City Council this October but have a few questions about the job, then plan to attend this week’s information night for prospective candidates.

“This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in running for council to learn more about the process around nomination, the election itself and the commitment that comes with a successful election,” says Angie Collison, the Chief Election Officer for the City of Penticton. “This workshop will allow prospective candidates to ask questions about the process of taking part in this year’s election.

The pre-candidate workshop is being held on July 28 in the City of Penticton Council Chambers at 5 p.m. to offer interested candidates an opportunity to experience what it might be like to sit at the Council table. Participants will learn more about the role of an elected official and will have an opportunity to ask staff any questions that they may have.

Topics of interest covered during the event include:

  • What the organization does
  • Roles and responsibilities
  • How to get ready
  • Nominations
  •  Campaign financing
  • Governance

As well, you can listen to the PenTALKton podcast with the Chief Election Officer and former mayor Dan Ashton called Election Tales from the Trenches here for more insight into sitting on council.
