The City is ready to power up the new outdoor lights at Penticton Youth Park – and you’re invited to join in the opening celebrations.
The City of Penticton is holding an official Light Up event on Friday, Oct. 18, from 5-7 p.m., with a DJ, food trucks, skateboarding, BMX biking and basketball showcase. This event is open to the public and free to attend, featuring demonstrations and an open skate/ride forum.
“We’re excited to flip the switch on this project, illuminating the skate park and basketball courts for the first time and enhancing this incredible amenity even further so residents and visitors can use it during any season,” says Draydan Power, manager of energy and environment.
The event begins at 5 p.m. with a three-on-three basketball showcase hosted by Lake City Basketball, followed by an open skate and BMX ride, as well as the official light-up. Representatives from local bike and snowboard shops will be on-site and taking part in the open skate event.
Construction will continue on-site at Riverside Park in the coming weeks as crews complete upgrades to the path from Riverside Drive to the Youth Park. New amenities that will be added in the near future include a water bottle fill station with fountain, bike and skateboard repair stations and picnic tables.
Other recent enhancements include two permanent shade structures added to the seating areas within the Youth Park, as well as the installation of a new washroom facility by the parking lot.
The total cost of the new outdooring lighting is estimated at $400,000 with funding from the B.C. Growing Communities Fund.
The skate park is considered one of the largest in B.C. For more details, visit penticton.ca/youth-park.
