The City of Penticton has unveiled a new Veterans Crosswalk near the downtown Cenotaph, honouring the sacrifices and service of Canadian Armed Forces members.
The thermoplastic crosswalk, developed in partnership with the Royal Canadian Legion executive, was installed following direction from Council to enhance recognition of local veterans in a prominent, highly visible location.
“Penticton is proud to recognize the service and sacrifice of our veterans in a meaningful and lasting way,” said Mayor Julius Bloomfield. “This crosswalk stands as a visible reminder of the courage and dedication of those who have served our country, and the gratitude our community holds for them.”
The Veterans Crosswalk is situated close to the Cenotaph on Veterans Way and is a focal point for annual remembrance ceremonies and community reflection.
“Our Legion approached the City with the idea of creating a crosswalk near the Cenotaph as a lasting tribute to those who served,” said Elaine Potter, President of Royal Canadian Legion Branch #40. “We’re grateful for the City’s support in bringing this vision to life. It’s a meaningful way to honour veterans, educate future generations, and remind our community of the importance of remembrance.”
The City worked closely with the Legion to ensure the design appropriately reflects the significance of remembrance while complementing the surrounding public space.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to view the new crosswalk and take a moment to honour the contributions of Canada’s veterans.
