Top of the line road bike? Refurbished KVR cruiser? An e-bike that'll whisk you to the best views around? A rental? A purchase? All of the above?
You'll find it in Penticton. Let’s check out the options.
The Bike Barn
300 Westminster Ave. West
Tel: 250-492-4140
Best for: Serious cyclists who want high-grade machinery and quality repairs.
A Penticton institution for more than 50 years, The Bike Barn is one of the Okanagan's premier cycling shops. Family-owned and operated by the Prowse family, the shop serves everyone from first-time riders to serious cyclists. Today, with the Prowse family still in charge, the shop in the distinctive old barn at the corner of Westminster and Brunswick serves all levels of cyclists but caters most to those who know enough to prefer one brand over another.
"We sell, service and promote cycling in Penticton," says Barn co-owner Geoff Prowse. "We sell everything from kids' bikes to high-end electric bikes and everything in between. We carry Trek, Norco, Rocky Mountain, Cube, Pivot, Opus and Cervello."
While the Bike Barn does not rent bikes, it does operate a sophisticated service facility.
"My grandparents started when they emigrated from England," said Prowse, "and today we're the longest-term bike shop in Penticton."
The Bike Barn is open year-round.
Freedom Bike Shop
533 Main St.
Tel: 250-493-0686
Best for: Sales, rentals and service of quality bikes.
Freedom Bike Shop has long been a Penticton cycling oasis – especially for gals and guys who peddle frequently and know they need quality gear. And Freedom does rentals too.
"We rent full suspension e-bikes, Kettle Valley cruiser e-bikes, hardtail mountain bikes, high-performance full suspension bikes, road bikes and more," says Freedom shop manager Josh Schulman. "And we do it all, from rental to repairs to sales and service. We have this town's most comprehensive service shop."
Customers needing a new bike can choose from top-tier manufacturers such as Specialized, Davinci, Santa Cruz, Giant and more.
Freedom Bike Shop is open year-round except January.
PDSCL Bike Shop
180 Industrial Ave. West
Tel: 250-493-0312, Ext 104
Best for: Recycling old bikes, grabbing freshly tuned used bikes at bargain prices.
Part of the Penticton and District Society for Community Living Centre on Industrial Avenue, the PDSCL Bike Shop is unique in the city.
It's not the place for a high-end bike or a rental. But it's the ideal spot for a great deal on a solid used machine. The shop collects pre-owned bicycles from a number of sources – typically by donation from residents or from the City in the form of stolen and "found" bikes – then puts them through mega tune-ups and sells them to the general public at rock bottom rates.
As a bonus, it employs folks with diverse abilities.
"The money we bring in is used to pay our clients to work," says manager and 40-year bike technician Francois Paquet. "Everyone here gets a paycheque every two weeks."
PDSCL Bike Shop is open year-round.
Rover Bike Shop
600 Martin St.
Tel: 877-694-3768
Best for: E-bike rentals, e-bike and analog bike service.
The newbie in town, Rover Bike Shop opened in 2025 but not long after was hit by a flood. The re-opening was April 2026 and Rover customer service rep Kelsee Knowlan wants everyone to know they’re ready to serve.
"We pride ourselves in selling fun for the whole family," says Knowlan, "and we’re right on the city bike lane, which makes bike try-outs really easy."
Rover carries one traditional bike brand – Kona Bicycles, born in the Pacific Northwest – and a small number of newly sprouted brands like Envo and Favorite e-bikes. It specializes in an exclusive house brand called "Valley of Heaven," designed by shop owner Brandon McLeod and featuring powerful perks like mid-drive/belt-drive motors.
The shop sells models from all of the above, but rents only Valley of Heaven and Favorite (a hybrid and a fat tire model). Its service department handles everything.
Rover Bike Shop is open year-round.
Hoodoo Adventures
Unit #84 – 52 Front St.
Tel: 250-492-3888
Best for: Bike rentals, shuttles and tours.
Hoodoo Adventures has been an adventuring fixture on the local front for almost two decades. Not only does it rent bikes and kayaks and more, it supports renters with shuttles and tours across the Okanagan and beyond.
And now, after a brief hiatus, Hoodoo has a new home at the back side of Front Street, next door to Crêperie Ooolala. For the cycling crowd, Hoodoo is all about rentals. It rents "comfort" bikes (like the Cannondale Adventure 1), mountain bikes (like the Giant Talon) and e-bikes (like the Velec E3 Series).
But that's not all. Also available are towable chariots and trailers for the wee ones and/or pets and "tag-alongs" for older kids.
Hoodoo Adventures bike rentals are available March 1 to Nov 1.
Epic Cycling
Best for: E-bike and analog bike rentals.
950 Lakeshore Dr. West
Tel: 604-626-5167
Situated across from Okanagan Beach on Lakeshore Drive in a little trailer adjacent to the Kettle Valley Beach Resort, Epic Cycling is a bike rental biz with a difference.
Each bike in its fleet hails from a premier traditional bike manufacturer. Moreover, all of them are "pedal assist" versus "throttle" (meaning less power but more exercise).
All of the above would seem to make Epic a solid choice for hardcore cyclists looking to rent.
"We have a large selection of Trek e-bikes and Norco e-bikes," said Epic owner Tamara Paul. "And we have trail bikes – hardtail with front suspensions – from Trek and Giant. "And we provide mandatory helmets and locks. All included."
Epic Cycling opens by April 1 every year and closes by the end of October.
Penticton Bike Rentals
1070 Lakeshore Drive
Tel: 250-462-1151
Best for: E-bike rentals, trail bikes and multi-person pedal carts.
Directly across the street from the SS Sicamous sternwheeler, in the heart of the Okanagan Lake tourist zone, is Penticton Bike Rentals.
Want one of those four-person pedal carts you see all over the northern waterfront? This is the place. But PBR rents much more than that.
"We have a wide variety of equipment," says owner Jamin Brietzke. "We're primarily all about e-bikes, but we also have trail bikes, paddle boards, kayaks and e-scooters. "All of our trail bikes are Treks. All of our e-bikes are Rad Power. We have two different models though all of them are step-thru. And they all have wider tires and throttles."
The facility also rents kids' bikes and kids' seats, saddles and trailers.
Penticton Bike Rentals is open June through September.
Pedego Electric Bikes Penticton
37 Backstreet Blvd.
Tel: 250-809-4786
Best for: Rentals of Pedego E-bikes
Based in Newport Beach, California, Pedego Electric Bikes has been cranking out e-bikes since 2008. Today they're one of the biggest names in the e-bike biz.
The little shop tucked away downtown on Backstreet Boulevard is an official Pedego dealer, and as such is stocked with various models of an e-bike brand store owner Aaron Sanders says is "ideal for cruising around town and some mild off-road use, like the KVR Trail."
The shop also handles the Urtopia brand, another e-bike with a throttle for easier pedaling.
Pedego Electric Bikes Penticton is open all year.
Cycling Without Age
Not everyone can hop on a bike, but everyone should have the chance to enjoy a ride.
Through Cycling Without Age Penticton, seniors and people with mobility challenges can experience Penticton's trails, parks and waterfront from the seat of a specially designed electric-assisted trishaw. Each ride is powered by a trained volunteer pilot, creating opportunities for fresh air, conversation, connection and a little adventure along the way.
Interested in taking a ride? Seniors, care homes and community organizations can contact OneSky Community Resources to learn more about booking a trishaw outing, while community members can also volunteer as pilots and help share the joy of cycling with others. Learn more or sign up or contact OneSky Community Resources at 250-809-9343.
