Businesses open as usual as construction shifts to Skaha Lake Road at Kinney Avenue

Service Announcement

Construction will begin at Skaha Lake Road and Kinney Avenue starting on Monday, June 24, to upgrade the intersection with a new traffic signal and other improvements designed to relieve congestion throughout the area.

The City of Penticton is reminding all residents and visitors that businesses throughout the area are open as usual and access will always be available.

Work involving this section of the Point Intersection group of projects is anticipated to continue throughout summer. While traffic along Skaha Lake Road will remain open, the road will be condensed to single lanes in either direction, so drivers may face delays and are reminded to follow the directions of signs and traffic controllers.

Note that vehicles will not be able to access Skaha Lake Road from Kinney Avenue during construction. Also, the stretch of Kinney Avenue between Skaha Lake Road and South Main Street is now permanently closed, with this section being converted to green space.

This work also involves upgrading sanitary, water and storm drain infrastructure, electrical upgrades and improving lighting, installing curbs, gutters and sidewalks. In addition, the project involves connecting the Lake-to-Lake Bike Route along Kinney Avenue to Atkinson Street.

Construction will take place Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. For a map, plus the latest updates involving the Point Intersection construction projects, visit penticton.ca/point-intersection
