Heat warning in effect: Stay cool and look out for one another

Service Announcement

Environment and Climate Change Canada has  issued a Yellow Heat Warning for Penticton and the surrounding area.

Residents and visitors are encouraged to take precautions during this period of sustained high temperatures. Drink plenty of water, stay in cool places and check in regularly on family, friends and neighbours, especially seniors and those who may not have access to air conditioning or suitable shelter.

Help vulnerable neighbours

Check in on seniors, people living alone and those with health conditions. Make sure they have water, access to a cool place and support if they need it. Don't forget to check on pets, which can also be affected by extreme heat.

For relief from the heat during regular business hours, residents can visit public facilities such as the Penticton Community Centre, Penticton Public Library and Penticton Seniors' Drop-In Centre.

To stay cool and hydrated

  • Visit one of the City's water bottle refill stations
  • Cool off at the splash pad at Rotary Playworld in Skaha Lake Park
  • Visit the public cooling station at Gyro Park, featuring accessible walkways and water misters activated by push-button timers

Don't forget your pets

Ensure animals have access to fresh water, shade and cool spaces. Avoid walking dogs during the hottest parts of the day and never leave pets in parked vehicles.  Penticton offers several off-leash dog beaches and parks where dogs can cool off and exercise. Learn more at: Penticton.ca.

Beat the heat and help others do the same. Visit penticton.ca/beat-the-heat for safety tips, cooling locations and resources, and check in on someone who may need extra support during the heat warning.
