GM of Finance and Admin, Jim Bauer, departing City for new opportunity

News Release

Jim Bauer, Penticton’s General Manager of Finance and Administration, is leaving the City to pursue a new opportunity.

Since commencing work in 2016 as the City’s Chief Financial Officer, and more recently as General Manager, Finance and Administration, Mr. Bauer has played an instrumental role in advancing the City’s strategic and administrative priorities, appearing regularly at Council meetings, guiding major City initiatives and engaging with the community on financial topics.  Through his steady leadership, thoughtful advice and thorough planning, Mr. Bauer helped steer and implement several notable City initiatives, including the City’s current Asset and Amenity Management project, the City’s financial response to COVID-19 and establishing a smooth and transparent budgeting process.

“One behalf of all City staff, I would like to extend congratulations and thanks to Jim as he embarks on his next opportunity,” said the City of Penticton’s Chief Administrative Officer, Donny van Dyk.  “Jim’s time with our organization has been a period of positive change, a time when requirements for transparency and clarity increased and expectations to deliver results were high.  In these areas and others, Jim has been a major contributor, leader and friend and will be missed both inside and outside City Hall.”

“From the beginning, Council has greatly appreciated the knowledge and experience Mr. Bauer brought to the roles and projects he led during his five years with the City,” said Penticton Mayor, John Vassilaki.  “As a seasoned and professional advisor to elected officials, Mr. Bauer enabled great confidence in our annual budget process, both for the degree of planning that goes into it and the commitment to listening to the public through our community engagement outreach. On behalf of Council, I extend our thanks to Mr. Bauer for his service to our community and wish him great success in his new opportunity.”

“It has been an honour and privilege to serve the community as their steward of the City’s financial resources. The opportunity to work with a highly talented and committed team of individuals, along with a seasoned Council, has been incredibly rewarding and a highlight of my career,” said Bauer.

Mr. Bauer will remain with the City until the end of November, after which a successor to his roll will be named following a competitive recruitment process.
