Proclamations

Alzheimer’s Awareness Month (January)

This proclamation recognizes Alzheimer’s Awareness Month and helps raise public understanding of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. It also highlights the importance of supporting individuals, families and caregivers affected in our community.

Community Radio Week (February 1–7)

Community Radio Week recognizes the role local radio plays in sharing information, supporting local voices and strengthening community connections. Council acknowledged the work of the Peach City Community Radio Society and its volunteers.

Delegations

Canadian Army Modernization – British Columbia Dragoons

Council heard an update from the British Columbia Dragoons on how the Canadian Army is modernizing its equipment, training and operations. The presentation provided context on national defence efforts and the local regiment’s role.

Regional District of Okanagan – Similkameen (RDOS) – Draft Budget 2026 
Council heard an update from the RDOS regarding their draft budget for 2026. 

Council Decisions

Mayor & Council 2027 Remuneration Review

Council referred the review of Mayor and Council remuneration to a task force. The task force will examine compensation and bring forward recommendations for Council’s consideration.

Shared Micro-Mobility Services (E‑Scooter/E-Bike Pilot Program Rollout)

Council approved the rollout of a shared e‑scooter and e-bike pilot program. The pilot will run for two years (April 2026-2028). Bird was the successful proponent of the City’s competitive bid process. Residents will begin to see more information as we get closer to the April 1 launch. 

Transit – Night Route Extension of Hours

Council approved extended operating hours for the transit night route. The change aims to improve access for late-night workers and riders, with communications planned to promote the expanded service.

Dawson Avenue Temporary Emergency Shelter

Council approved the staff recommendation related to the temporary emergency shelter on Dawson Avenue. The decision supports continued shelter services while staff work on longer-term housing solutions. A new Temporary Use Permit for the location will be brought back to Council for consideration at an upcoming meeting. Current funding for the temporary shelter runs out March 31, 2026. 

Planning Applications

995 Eckhardt Avenue West – Zoning Amendment and Development Permit

Council gave three readings to the zoning amendment and development permit for this property. The decision allows the proposed development to move forward in alignment with city policies. This project is part of the BC Builds program which will provide workforce housing with a portion being offered at below market value. 

Bylaws

Development Cost Charge Amendment Bylaw

Council adopted the Development Cost Charge Amendment Bylaw. Development cost charges help fund infrastructure needed to support growth, such as roads, utilities and parks.

Notice of Motion

Detox and Recovery Centre Advocacy

Council considered a notice of motion requesting staff prepare a letter to provincial partners advocating for a detox and recovery centre in Penticton. Council voted to postpone the motion and asked staff to return with more information at a future meeting.
