Eckhardt Avenue Upgrades

This $5.5-million, multi-year project involves replacing aging underground infrastructure and adding traffic safety improvements to create a “complete street” upgrade that will serve residents for many years to come.

This project requires a road closure of Eckhardt Avenue, which will remain closed for the remainder of the 2026 school year. The overall project is anticipated to be completed in fall 2026.

UPDATE (June 5, 2026): Note that construction is now heading into the final stages on the west end of Eckhardt (between Main Street and Braid Street), anticipated to be complete in this section by early July. Once this work is finished, roads within this section – including Ellis Street – will reopen to the public as construction shifts to the eastern portion of Eckhardt Avenue.

The next significant phase will take place at the intersection of Eckhardt Avenue and Government Street, beginning July 6, 2026.

Project Overview

Traffic Changes

Access to Eckhardt Avenue is closed from Main Street to allow for excavation and large equipment to upgrade water, storm and electrical infrastructure. In addition, multiple traffic safety improvements will be installed, including a flashing crosswalk beacon at Ellis Street and continuous sidewalks and bike lanes along the corridor.
